Heflin - Donald E. "Donnie" Breed, 68, of Heflin, AL., passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at UAB Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Dryden Funeral Home with Doug Prestridge officiating. Visitation will be Friday, September 22, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Mr. Breed is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Jennifer (Josh) Patterson; grandson, Zane Patterson; mother, Clara Jo Breed; sister, Dona (Tyrus) Morgan; brother, Kenneth Breed; and several nieces, nephews,great nieces, and great nephews.
Donnie was a native of Cleburne County and resided in Heflin his entire life. He himself was a Heflin Tiger and remained a loyal fan throughout his life. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran who returned home and made it a point to create a prosperous and comfortable life. He earned his Associates degree in business and was employed by Crowntuft Manufacturing for many years. In 2003, Donnie opened his business in Hollis Crossroads and was successful there until his retirement in 2013. He was an extreme Alabama fan who never missed a game. Not long after his retirement, he gained a name that will forever be the name that gave him the greatest happiness-Pawpaw. He was a loving, caring, great man, husband, daddy, Pawpaw, brother, son, and uncle. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Breed; brother, Jimmy Breed; and sister, Janet Breed Nolen.
