Obituary for Shelby "Jackie" Jackson McDaniel

Heflin - Shelby Jackson (Jackie) McDaniel passed from this life to his eternal home in Heaven on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Friday, July 22, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin with the Rev. Chad Morgan and the Rev. Brad McVay officiating.

Jackie was born on Saturday, June 30, 1951. At the age of 17 on September 3, 1968, at the Cleburne County Fair, Jackie met Jane, the love of his life who would three years later become his wife, and they would share 51 years of marriage. Jackie is survived by his wife Jane Jenkins McDaniel; son Jamie Lynn McDaniel; daughter Jadah McDaniel McVay and her husband the Rev. Brad McVay; six precious granddaughters Anna, Bella, Allie, Brooklyn, Caitlyn, and Chloe McVay; and his sweet little Yorkie Happy, who loved his Pop very much.

Jackie was a devoted husband and a proud and loving father and Pop. Jackie loved the Lord and all of his family very much, and his family loved him very much. Jackie will be greatly missed by his family and his many special friends, including his two brothers Wendell McDaniel (Mary) and Garry McDaniel (Carol). Jackie was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Cochran McElroy, stepfather William (Bill) McElroy, father Hardin McDaniel, sister Peggy Shealy, half-sister Linda Smith, half-sister Brenda Cathy, brother Ralph McDaniel, and brother Hardin (Junior) McDaniel.

Jackie and Jane owned their printing business for 26 years. He was self-taught in many aspects of the printing industry. Jackie also had a love for old cars and enjoyed restoring them to their natural beauty. If you mentioned a red 1960 Chevrolet Impala, everyone knew who they were talking about. A very special thank you to everyone who has been there for support, provided food, sent cards, and offered words of comfort. Also, a special thank you to Compassus Hospice for the special love and care they have provided to the family.

Pallbearers will be: Jackie Bragg, Jonathan Embry, Clark Gable, Bob Howle, Mark Howle, and Joey Parker.

Jackie was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or a donation can be made in memory of Jackie to New Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 672, Heflin, AL 36264.
