Obituary for Richard Allen Parkin

Richard “Ricky” Allen Parkin of Heflin, AL, passed away at his home on Monday, July 8th, 2019. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 10, 1962. Ricky was a graduate of Cleburne County High School in 1980. He worked at Sewell’s in Bowdon, GA and Swafford Services in Oxford, AL. Ricky was a kind-hearted man who loved spending time with his friends and family. He was known for his ability to make people laugh. He enjoyed comedy and was adept at finding ways to tell a good story. He loved baseball games (Go Braves!), Alabama football (Roll Tide!), and the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also spent a great amount of time volunteering and was a friend of Bill W. Earlier in life, Ricky also served as a deacon at Vice Grove Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas E. Parkin, Martha “Ailene” Parkin, and his older brother Anthony “Tony” Edwin Parkin. He is survived by daughter Cassie McGuire, her husband Caan and children- Carter, Honor, and Mason. He is also survived by daughter Ashley Anthony, her husband Brandon, and children- Cole, Dylan, Logan, Rian, and a soon to be born granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister Patti Cavender, brother-in-law Ricky Joe Cavender, twin brother Randy Parkin, and sister-in-law Jan Parkin.
The family will receive friends at Dryden Funeral Home at 12:30pm on Thursday July 11th, with funeral services following at 2:00pm. Graveside service will be at Pinetucky Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations for expenses may be made to the family in care of Rocky Mount Baptist Church at “The Ricky Parkin Fund” at 583 Buffalo Creek Rd, Carrollton, GA 30117.
