Obituary for Kenneth L. Forsyth

Heflin - Dr. Kenneth L. Forsyth of Heflin, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Kenneth began his ministry in 1961. He was a bi-vocational minister, and valued education. He continued studying and received his Doctor of Divinity degree from International Bible Institute & Seminary in 1986. He was also a carpenter, cabinetmaker and gifted woodturner, creating many pieces of furniture for his family. Kenneth also loved music and through the years played the guitar, banjo and Dobro.

Kenneth was one of four children born to the late Dewey L. and Evia Anderton Forsyth of Cullman, Alabama. Kenneth married the late Catherine Walker Forsyth in 1959 and they were married 62 years before her passing in January of this year.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Walker Forsyth, his parents, Dewey L. and Evia Forsyth, his sister, Louise Coolidge, his brother, Douglas D. Forsyth, one grandchild, LeaAnn Forsyth, and his son-in-law, James L. Bennett. He is survived by his son, Wayne Forsyth (Deborah), and daughter, Yvonne Forsyth Bennett all of Heflin, AL. He is survived by grandchildren, Emily DeVries (Rick) of Villa Rica, GA, Kristin Cobb Johnson of Heflin, AL, and Adam Willis (Jaclyn) of Anniston, AL. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Ayden Willis, Connor Johnson, Tripp Bennett, all of Heflin, AL, Jake DeVries and AnnaBelle DeVries of Villa Rica, GA.

He is also survived by his brother Leon Forsyth (Nancy) of Heflin, AL, and his sister, Bonnie Speegle of Cullman, AL.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin, AL. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010, in the chapel at Dryden’s with Rev. James Benefield officiating. Music will be provided by Barbara Yarbrough and Ryan Robertson. Burial will follow at Old Hopewell Baptist Church.
