Heflin - Jack Richard Wood, 89, died Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Diversicare of Oxford.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Heflin City Cemetery with the Rev. Joy Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Heflin City Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jack was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County, graduated from CCHS and went to JSU on a football scholarship before going to University of Alabama. He was Mr. University of Alabama Body Building. Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Jacqueline on 9-11-1954.Jack worked for Wood Drug Company for several years, In 1961 he bought The Cleburne News and became the Editor/Owner then purchased Wood Jewelry Store, C and H Clothing Store and Wood Photographer. He won several awards for articles he wrote through The Associated Press. Jack was elected as Mayor of Heflin two different times and was a delegate for the Democratic National Convention before changing to the Republican Party, He loved to play tennis and golf, watching Alabama Football and all Alabama Sports.
