Obituary

Owen
On August 4, 2020, Glenda Jean Bailey Owen went to be with Jesus, her beloved parents, Gordon and Frances Bailey, and her precious grandsons, Will, Cal and Owen Payton. She was a friend to many & a banker to many more, a beloved sister and daughter, but no roles were ever more important to her than as a wife, a mother, and a Bebe. She was the sun around which we all orbited, and without her, we will be lost. Please pray for us, because this is impossibly hard; but for her, your prayers have already been answered: she is at peace, in no pain and in Heaven with our Granny & Gord, her sweet grandbabies, & quite a few collies she’s been looking forward to seeing again.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Owen, of Heflin, with whom she recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary; her daughters, Traci Owen Vella, of Birmingham, Kelly Payton (Danny) of Anniston, and Leslie Ann Hallmark (Chris), of Birmingham, her much adored grandchildren, Jake Vella, Kirby Payton, Gray Hallmark, Foster Payton, Cooper Hallmark, and Kate Hallmark; her sister, Patricia Pruitt (Jim), of Hackneyville; her brother Bobby Bailey (Rita), of Heflin; her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Barbara Owen, of Heflin.

Spending over 40 years at Colonial Bank, she knew almost everyone in Heflin, and enjoyed lifelong friendships which began there. She spent hours upon hours “playing in the dirt,” planting and caring for her flowers and beautiful yard. She loved all animals and rescued more than she could count. She will be missed by many.

Visitation will be at Dryden Funeral Home in Heflin on Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 2:00 until 3:00 PM with a funeral to follow at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM with Dr. Roland Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Lower Cane Creek Cemetery.
