Heflin - Geneva Chandler McCormick, 97, of Heflin, AL, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL.

Visitation will be at Chulafinnee Baptist Church from 12 to 2 on Tuesday, February 7, with the funeral to follow at 2. Rev. James Benefield and Rev. Philip Morris will officiate and her granddaughter will give the eulogy. Arrangements are by Dryden Funeral Home.

She was born August 4, 1925, in Talladega County, to the late Fred and Sara Chandler. She was the oldest of 6 girls. She graduated from Munford High School in 1945. She briefly worked at Hollingsworth Jewelry where she met and married Ligon McCormick on February 18, 1951. She welcomed her only child, Elizabeth, on April 2, 1952. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and homemaker. She was a hard worker that enjoyed canning and freezing, quilting, and spending time with family and loved ones. Until her passing, she was the oldest living member of Chulafinnee Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ligon McCormick, and sister’s Mae Helen Wilkerson and Dora Lee Singleton.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth McCary (Ron) of Heflin, AL. Three grandchildren, Kyetra Belton (Shane) of Daytona Beach, FL, Kristi Shelton and Patrick McCary, both of Heflin, Al. Three sisters, Mary Jennings of Oxford, AL, Marie Wilcox of Munford, Al, and Judy Crabtree of Anniston, AL. Seven great grandchildren, Gaven Childers, Travis McCary, Harleigh McCary, Mallory Grubbs, Taft Belton, Wyatt Shelton, and Ligon McCary. Multiple nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Payne, Jerry Wade, Jack Jennings, Gary McCormick, Travis McCary, and Gaven Childers.
