Metairie - Donald Ray Beason Was born May 27, 1935 in Heflin, Al. He was preceded in Death by His beloved parents Sylvan Calvin and Jennie Vise Beason ,also of Heflin, Al. He was also preceded in by sister, Malene Beason Ward and brother-law Bill Ward, brother, Jimmy F. Beason, brother Raborn Rudolph Beason and Longtime friend, Albert J Lauro, MD.
He lived in New Orleans for the past 50+years. Don passed away 10/11/2021 at East Jefferson General Hospital of New Orleans, LA from kidney failure and other health issues.
Donald graduated from high school in Heflin, Al (1953) and The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa (1957) where he received both his undergraduate degree and his Masters of Business Administration and Economics (1960) He studied for his PHD at The University of Alabama. He taught Boston University, Auburn University, Jacksonville University and Xavier University of Louisiana. He later was the Dean of Business and Economics at Xavier University in New Orleans, La where he retired in 1986.
Don received many high scholastic awards throughout his career while in college and later in his professorships.
Don was a world traveler, articulate, knowledgeable visiting many countries throughout Europe and the Americas. His passions were education, travel, music and culinary arts. Don was a member of the renowned Million Dollar Band at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. There, they traveled with the football team across the country including playing at The Cotton Bowl whetting his passion for travels. One of his most favorite moments occurred in the past couple of years when his niece took him back to his alma mater for a guided tour of The University of Alabama, the Million Dollar Band facilities and the athletic facilities.
Don was a devoted family man and good friend to so many. He never met a stranger and always had a kind word about everyone he met.
He is survived by his nieces Karla Ward Self and family, Janice Ward Chancey and family, and Gwen Ward Vinzant and family, nephew Barton Todd Beason and family and sister-in-law Geralyn Beason and family.
Graveside Services will be held at Heflin,Al Cemetery with Dryden Funeral Home directing on Monday 10/18/2021 at 11:00
