Dana Randall Turner 73, of Heflin, Alabama, was carried to Heaven on wings of love on Tuesday, April 13, from the hospital at UAB.

A Funeral Mass for Dana will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Golden Springs with the Reverend John McDonald, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Heflin, Alabama. The family will receive friends, April 19, 2021, from 5 - 7 pm at Dryden Funeral Home, followed by a prayer service.

Dana tirelessly served his country, his community, and everyone who knew him. His love was boundless for everyone. And we loved him beyond measure.

Born in Heflin in Cleburne County, Alabama on August 24, 1947, Dana received his diploma from Cleburne County High School in 1965. He went on to obtain a BS degree from Auburn University, a Masters degree and an AA from A&M University. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1973 with a tour of duty in Vietnam for two of those years.

Dana shared his passion for his love of life and the land by teaching Agriculture at Cleburne County High School for twenty-six years and Georgia’s Haralson County High School for ten years. He was a life-long farmer as well.

Dana exemplified his love for his community by serving on numerous Boards such as the Cleburne County Schools, Easter Seals of Alabama, and the Opportunity Center of Calhoun County. He lent his expertise to Agriculture of Alabama for 25 years and also worked with the Boy Scouts of Cleburne County. He served on the Advisory Council Uniserv, District 10, for the National Education Association.He served in numerous positions for VFW Post 4563 and was currently serving as Chaplain. Later in his career, he served in the office of L.E. Bell Construction, working with his childhood friend, Larry Bell.

He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Anniston.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Allen Guy Turner and Dorothy Elkins Turner, and his brother, Anthony (Tony) Turner all of Heflin.

Survivors include his wife, Kala, son, Austin, and daughter, Cheyanne. He also leaves behind a brother, Jerry Turner (Meladee) of Heflin, another brother Mike Turner (Janet) of Rainbow City, a sister, Judy Tomlinson of Birmingham, another sister, Nancy McManus (Tony) of Ranburne. His brothers-in-law include Mike Cova (Lanelle) of Oxford, Alan Cova (Marcia) of Deatsville, and Mark Cova (Kelly)of Munford. Sisters-in-law include Gina Cova of Oxford, and Tina Cova Younger (Tom) of Scottsboro.

A shining example of love, respect, and dignity, he will be painfully missed by everyone whose existence he touched and we are forever grateful to the Father for his life.
