Obituary for Cecil Duke Vaughan

Cecil D. Vaughan, Heflin, AL., passed away October 30 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL. He was 89.

Cecil was born in Heflin, October 30, 1932, and was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Sarah Vaughan of Heflin. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Vaughan; a daughter, Cindy Vaughan; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jenny Vaughan; a grandson, Landon Vaughan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A native of Heflin, he was a graduate of Cleburne County High School and Jacksonville State University where he majored in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army and went on to become an auditor at Anniston Army depot, retiring after more than 37 years of service.

Cecil was a kind and loving son, husband, father, and friend. He loved serving his country and community. His family and friends knew him as someone with a wicked sense of humor, a twinkle in his eye and a generous heart.

A visitation is planned for Monday, November 1, 2021, 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel, 1457 Almon St., Heflin.

The Rev. Philip Morris will conduct the service, and music will be provided by Gary Harris.

Duke Daugherty, Eddie Grubbs, Bobby Watson, Gary Harris, Matt Miles, Mim Miles, John L. Adrian Jr., and Dennis Wisener will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Ed Wilson, Lynnwood Williamson, Horace Perry, Lamar Perry, Harold Berryhill, Charles Laminack, William Patterson, and the late Buster and Alice Miles.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Heflin Baptist Church, 155 Almon Street.
