Obituary for Catherine W. Forsyth

Heflin - Catherine Walker Forsyth, age 82, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at University Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Catherine was one of seven children born to John Emmett Walker, Jr. and Leona Weathers Walker, and grew up in the Hopewell community of Cleburne County. Catherine graduated in 1956 from Ranburne High School. Catherine married Kenneth L. Forsyth in 1959, a Baptist minister, and she served faithfully and tirelessly at his side in the ministry for over 55 years.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, John Emmett Walker and Leona Weathers Walker of Heflin, her beloved granddaughter, LeaAnn Forsyth of Tallapoosa, Georgia, and son-in-law, James L. Bennett. Five of her siblings preceded her in death: Marie Walker Watson, Elizabeth Walker White, Joe Walker, Dorothy Walker Cook and Travis Walker, all of Heflin, Alabama.

Catherine is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth L. Forsyth, son Wayne Forsyth (Deborah), daughter Yvonne F. Bennett, her grandchildren: Emily Forsyth DeVries (Rick) of Villa Rica, GA, Kristin Cobb Johnson of Heflin, AL, Adam Willis (Jaclyn) of Anniston, AL. Catherine is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Ayden Willis, Connor Johnson, Tripp Cobb E. Bennett of Heflin, and Jake DeVries and AnnaBelle DeVries of VillaRica, Ga. Catherine is survived by one sibling, Johnny Walker (Sue) of Alexander City, Alabama.

A memorial service for Catherine will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021, in the chapel at Dryden Funeral Home, Heflin, AL, at 2:00 PM CST. Rev. James Benefield will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 PM CST. Please observe current guidelines for social distancing and masking.

Flowers will be accepted (please no live/potted plants), or donations to mother’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105. Mother loved and supported St. Jude’s regularly, calling them “her kids”.
