Heflin - Celebration of Life Service for Barbara Owen will be at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Edwardsville Baptist Church.
Barbara Owen, age 84, became eternally healed in the fullness of her heavenly father’s love on March 26, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 Years, Bill Owen; her brother, Joel Robinson and her parents; Cordia and Arthur Robinson. She is survived by her daughter, Nikki Owen Smallwood and her husband, Jim Smallwood. She had many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that also survived her.
Barbara was born in Douglasville, Georgia, November 3, 1938. Her early childhood was spent in the Heard County area. She moved to Fruithurst, Alabama in elementary school. She was a graduate of Cleburne County High School. She was a member of the women’s basketball team and had a special love the for the French Club.
Barbara made many close friends during her years working at Moore Business Forms. She was also a mentor to the wives whose husbands worked for L E Bell. She enjoyed the travel with Bill and, of course, the shopping in obscure small towns.
She exemplified her love for God in the many ways she served her church from washing dishes to teaching Sunday School for more than 50 years. In recent years, her ministry extended to the Cleburne County jail where she had the opportunity to share the love of Christ and influence the lives of the inmates there.
Barbara had a true talent for finding beauty in furniture and furnishings. Her home was a testament to her eye for finding interesting things and displaying them beautifully. She loved her yard and spent countless hours outside.
Barbara Owen made the world a better place by living in it and by practicing the great commandment of loving her neighbor as herself.
