Obituary for Aledes Newborn Walker

Aledes Newborn Walker, 92, of Heflin, passed away Friday, September 13, 2019, at her home of 61 years.
Born May 18, 1927, to William Thomas and Mary "Mollie" Morris Newborn. Aledes, was a lifelong resident of Cleburne County, a seamstress by trade, and had worked at Sewell's in Heflin and Darsey's of Tallapoosa Georgia. She was a Baptist by faith and a long time member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. Born, the forth of eleven children, she was no stranger to hard work. Working long hours along side her father and siblings, cropping cotton to survive the Great Depression. She lost her father to cancer when she was 18, so she went to work in the cotton mills of Blue MT. to help support her mother and siblings. On Oct. 26, 1945, she married her husband of 51 years, Joe Rufus Walker, while he was still in service during World War II. When he found out he had crippling Rheumatoid Authritis, she became the foundation to the family, taking on much of the duties of their farm, she could plow the garden, can the produce, and sew her children's garments, all while teaching them, good work ethics and all about our Lord. She always had a Bible verse to go with any situation, and made sure to take her children to church. She saw 3 of her son's serve in the Vienam War, and prayed daily until they returned safely home.
Survivors include daughters, Bobbie Jo (Lynn) Otwell of Ranburne, Judy (Travis) Williams and Linda (James) Clark of Heflin, sons, R. Jerry (Jeanelle) Walker, W. Hugh Walker, Rex (Ann) Walker, and Fred Walker of Heflin. Sisters, Virtie N. Walker of Heflin, Melvie N. Walker of Calhoun GA and brother, Charlie B J Newborn of DeFuniak Springs FL. 14 grandchildren, 30 Great grandchildren and 1 Great-great granddaughter.
Besides her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a son, Jimmy D. Walker of Heflin, grandsons H. Shannon Walker of Heflin, and Skyler J. Clark of Jacksonville, Sisters, Vernes N. Cook Biles, Felmer N. Cook Junior, Lois N. Junior and Pearlie N. Smith and Brothers, Rev. Fred Newborn, John Thomas Newborn, and Benjamin Franklin Newborn.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, J. Dawayne Walker, Greg Williams, Brain Walker, and Jason Clark of Heflin, Derrick Clark of Anniston and Adam Walker of Carrollton Georgia.
Visitation will be Saturday 4 until 7 PM at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with internment in the adjoining cemetery. Her father helped to build this church and his funeral was the first held in there. Rev. Chester Pesnell, of Tallapoosa, GA will be officiating the funeral Sunday at 2 PM at Crossroad Baptist Church, Rev. Grover Robinson of Heflin will be singing her favorite song, " Where We'll Never Grow Old", and music will be provided by Juanita Gay. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
