Obituary for Avis Perry Kilgore

Mrs. Avis Perry Kilgore’s beloved church, Campground UMC in Muscadine, Alabama will be hosting her “Celebration of Life” on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 CST just prior to the celebration service at 2:00, officiated by Pastor Joey Ray and Reverend James Owens. Eulogies will be offered by grandsons, Lane Kilgore and Jim Bennett. Special music provided by great grandson, Ashley Bryant, and The Barrett Sisters.
The eighth child of nine, Avis Cleo Perry was born to Oley and Josie Roberts Perry on October 13, 1922. Surrounded by those she loved, Mrs. Kilgore made her Heavenly debut Saturday afternoon, January 14, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Floyd Kilgore and young son, Stanley, as well as her parents, sisters…Clara Kerr, Vertie Perry and Ina Hamrick; brothers…Emerson, Leonard, Elbert, A.V and Herman Perry. Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Gloria (Thomas) Bennett; sons, Royce (Brenda) Kilgore, Glenn (Jan) Kilgore and Perry Kilgore; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and innumerable friends.
Mrs. Kilgore did enjoy some public employment as a factory worker and part-time postmaster, but for the majority of her life she was primarily a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, co-store owner and an avid quilter. She was devoted to her church and may be best known for her role as the community matriarch, caring for and encouraging all those around her.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren… Lane Kilgore, Jim Bennett, Ellis Bennett, Clint Cochran, Ashley Bryant, Ken Sanders, Kyrus Clark and Kade Clark.
The family offers special thanks to her faithful caregivers, Cleburne County Nursing Home and Alabama Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campground United Methodist Church, 24581 CR 49, Suite A, Muscadine, AL 36269; the Fruithurst Senior Center, P. O. Box 160, Fruithurst, AL 36262 or to a favorite charity.
