Obituary for Pam Dryden McKnight

Pamela Dryden McKnight returned to her heavenly home on March 15, 2015 after a 4-year battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her and ultimately gave her peace. She died peacefully at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at the age of 63.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday March 17, 2015 at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlie Stevens officiating. Visitation will be Monday March 16, 2015 from 5-7 p.m.
Pamela is survived by her husband of 42 years, Calvin McKnight of Tuscaloosa, (formerly of Heflin, Alabama); her mother, Beverly Dryden; her sons Chris McKnight and Ben McKnight (Lori) of Heflin, and Casey Scroggins (Tom) of Tuscaloosa; brothers Geoff Dryden (Darian) of Hiram, Georgia, and Thomas Dryden (Donna) of Birmingham, sisters Joanne Moore (Garey) of Heflin, and Patty McBrayer (Steve) of West Point, Mississippi. She adored her 6 grandchildren, Lela and Ella McKnight, of Heflin and Emily, Norah, John, and Shelby Scroggins of Tuscaloosa. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Carlisle Dryden of Heflin.
Pam was born on Whidbey Island, Washington, where her dad was stationed in the Navy. She graduated from Cleburne County High School in 1969 and soon moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she met Calvin. She and Calvin returned to Heflin in 1986 and raised their family. She moved to Tuscaloosa in 2009. During her 23 years in Heflin, she welcomed many kids into her home on a daily basis. She was loved by many and considered many other children “her kids” as well. She never met a stranger and was willing to do anything she could to help others. Even after her cancer diagnosis, she was passionate about helping others and found great joy in talking to other cancer patients to help give them hope and peace.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to DCH Foundation, Help and Hope Fund, 809 University Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401, to help provide needed medications and care to those fighting cancer. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center and at Hospice of West Alabama.
